This week, they began their next big project - flooring.

Through a grant, they were able to purchase new shower/tub units, sinks and faucets, at-cost. Groom’s Furniture donated one TV cabinet so they just need one more big entertainment center for the living room.

According to Yancey, the benefit concert in March raised $1000. That money will be used to shop for comforters, sheets, pillows and drapery rods.

Another huge need is sewing. Mel Sieve from Unique Tile has already volunteered to roll up her sleeves and help sew drapery panels, but a few more willing sewers are needed to help with simple, rod-pocket panels.

“We also need a nice couch, or two lounge chairs, and table for the director’s office,” noted Yancey. “She does counseling in there with kids and we are going to make her office feel more comfortable and not so ‘office like.’”

Anyone who can lend a hand or donate products, please contact Yancey at 417-890-5543 or byancey@bkd-ia.com.

Needs:

Neutral or rusty/red colored couch
Large Entertainment Center
2 Lounge Chairs
Table
People to sew drapes

This new collection of eight patterns offers 100% organic wallcoverings for sustainable building.

Continuing its commitment to the environment and sustainable building, Wolf-Gordon announces a new generation of sustainable wallcoverings. Organics, exclusive to Wolf-Gordon, is a line of 100% organic wallcoverings offering biodegradability, breathability, durability, and aesthetics - all at an affordable price. All wallcoverings in this collection are washable and Class A fire rated for safety.

Organics is a renewable wallcovering collection durable enough for any commercial interior. All eight Organics designs consist of three key components: Polyactic Acid (PLA), Kenaf (grass), and recycled news-paper. Polyactic acid, the topcoat and structural element, is a biodegradable, thermoplastic, aliphatic polyester derived from renewable resources including potatoes and corn.

This thermoplastic component provides strong fire ratings, turning to water vapor when it is heated or burned. The core component of these new wallcoverings is Kenaf, or grass, and the backing is made from recycled newspapers and magazines stripped of their formaldehyde and print inks.

Organics offers both sustainability and aesthetics, a rare find in the commercial design industry. From subtle striations to simulated animal prints, the eight designs draw their inspiration from the beautiful landscape of the Indian countryside. Patterns such as Jaipur, Kerala, Taj, and Taj Diamond provide decorative elements and vibrant coloring that are appropriate for any interior environment.

Home Style Ltd. hosted the March meeting of the Springfield Design Association. Home Style has a beautiful showroom full of designer fabrics by the bolt. They offer drapery hardware, home accessories, trims and tassels, as well as workroom services for construction of draperies and custom bedding and pillows.

Food for the event was brought in by Clary’s of Springfield and was set up in “stations” around the showroom allowing for maximum browsing and mingling The meeting was well attended by SDA members from all aspects of design from builder to designer, architect to sales rep. The meeting came to a close with information about upcoming events, such as the MSU senior show which was be held on April 4 in the Plaster Student Union Ballroom on MSU Campus.

Jane Patterson of Home Style Ltd. educated attendees about the Do’s and Don’ts of Window placement. She pointed out several situations that she sees on a day-to-day basis that can cause issues when it is time to “dress” the windows. Creative solutions are a must! Bill Hare from KDR Kansas City was next on the agenda with information about the fantastic products that are available through them. He showcased some of the latest items in window hardware. Iron Art by Orion has great metal finishes sure to match any lighting fixture or furniture piece in your design. My personal favorite would have to be the Bohemia collection. Nothing adds a touch of glamour to your space like a crystal finial that sparkles like a diamond. I think that all the attendees were inspired by this visit to Home Style!
